How much does a website cost?
A website costs from about $200 a year on a builder to $35,000 or more from an agency. A small studio like ours sits in between: from $1,100 for one page, from $2,000 for a small website and from $3,300 for a full one. In pounds, that is from about £830, £1,500 and £2,500. Below are our own prices, the hours behind them, and what a website costs over three years.
Website design prices: builder, freelancer, studio or agency?
A builder costs about $200–600 a year, and a ready-made template $50–1,300 once. A freelancer charges $2,000–8,000, a small studio like ours starts from $1,100, and an agency charges $10,000–35,000.
Each bar runs from the lowest to the highest price we found. Further right is dearer: every step on the scale is about three times more.
In the UK, Healy Web Design’s 2026 guide puts a simple site at £500 to £1,500 and a custom one at £2,000 to £5,000+. Our prices in pounds use the October 2026 rate of $1 ≈ £0.75.

What actually drives the price?
The number of different kinds of pages drives the price, and the logic behind them. The number of pages matters much less. A product page is designed and built once, and after that each new product adds content, not design or code.
Five kinds of page
TARNHOLM, our furniture sample site, is built from home, collection, product, about and contact.
Twenty products, one template
Twenty of its 24 pages are product pages. Each new one adds content, not design or code.
A page with its own logic
A filter, a configurator or a store finder is new work. So is a page with a new layout.
Our furniture sample site, TARNHOLM, shows why a page count misleads. It has 24 pages, but only five kinds: home, collection, product, about and contact. Twenty of the 24 are product pages on one template. Three pages that each work in their own way cost more than those twenty. A new product in an existing collection is not new work.
Hours tell the same story. A 24-page website we are building now for a furniture brand takes about 194 hours: 146 for design and development, 20 for texts and 28 for leading the project. That is the size of our Full website. A price per page would say nothing about where those hours go.
So when you compare quotes, ask how many kinds of pages they plan to build. A quote of “10 pages” says little. A quote of “home, collection, product page, about, contact” tells you what you pay for.
What makes a furniture or interior website cost more?
Product choices and large images cost more, and so does any page with its own logic. When a buyer picks a finish and the images change, that page takes more work than one photo and a description.
These add hours
- a finish or fabric picker that swaps the images
- a 360° product view or a 3D product configurator
- a map of stores or showrooms where the buyer can see the piece
- a separate area for trade buyers or interior designers
These add almost nothing
- more products in the same collection
- more projects on the same project template
- more photos in the same gallery
Where do the hours go?
Most of the hours go to development, then design. A full website takes 196 hours of work, a small one 116.
- Design
- Development
- Testing on phones and browsers
- Texts written for search and AI
- One person leading it, start to launch
These are starting points. The exact price comes after a short call or a free review, and you agree it before any work starts. We never bill the project itself by the hour.
How long does it take to build a website?
A small website takes us 4–6 weeks, a full one 8–10 weeks. One page takes 2–3 weeks, and an upgrade of the site you have takes 1–2 weeks. For comparison, Elementor’s 2026 guide puts a freelancer at 4–8 weeks and an agency at 12–16 weeks or more.
The timeline is part of what we agree before starting. The weeks assume texts and images are ready when the build needs them. If you also need new product images, tell us at the start: Render Friends can make them while we build the site.
How much does website maintenance cost?
- $50–200a month, a typical maintenance plan
- €75a month, MEANit’s support from
- 3 monthsfree with us after launch
Maintenance plans usually cost $50–200 a month, according to Elementor’s 2026 guide. MEANit, a studio in Ireland, starts its support at €75 a month. With us, the first three months after launch are free: we change texts and images and fix bugs. After that, there is no single support price, because sites need very different amounts of work. You either pay for the hours your changes take, or we agree a fixed price for a piece of work.
Our sites have no plugins that need monthly updates. So maintenance means changes to your content, not security patches.
What does a website cost over three years?
Over three years, builder plans add up to about $600–1,800, and our small website costs from $2,000 once. Hosting for a static site like ours can cost nothing. So on the dearer plans the totals end up close: $1,764 for three years of Squarespace Plus against our starting price of $2,000.
| Over three years | Builder | Our small website |
|---|---|---|
| Build | your own time, or a template ($50–1,300) | from $2,000 once |
| Plan or hosting | about $600–1,800 | from $0 on Cloudflare Pages’ free plan |
| Apps and plugins | often extra, monthly | none needed |
| Changes after launch | you make them | free for 3 months, then by the hour or a fixed price |
In year one, a builder still costs less, and you make the changes yourself. What our price buys is ownership and a site built around your product. A builder site is rented: when you leave, its code stays with the platform. Our site is yours, with the code, the domain and everything on it.
We do not claim a builder site gets slow or breaks after a set number of years. Nobody has measured that.
Twenty product pages on one template cost less than three pages that each work differently.
Three years of Squarespace Plus: $1,764. Our small website: from $2,000, once.
01
Is a redesign cheaper than a new website?
No. A redesign costs the same as a new website of the same size, because the work is the same. When a redesign is worth it →
To keep your site and only make it faster, clearer or easier to find, you need an upgrade. It starts from $900 and takes 1–2 weeks.
02
When a website builder is enough
Choose a builder when you want to change pages yourself every week, or when your budget is below a studio’s starting price. With us, that starts from $1,100 for one page. A builder also fits when you need a few simple pages and no special logic.
In that case, start on Wix or Squarespace and spend the money on good images instead. Come back to a studio when the template starts to limit you. Typical signs: a catalogue that needs filters, a page that has to work differently, or large images that load slowly.
Send us your site for a free review. When a builder is the better choice, we will say so.
03
What to prepare before asking for a quote
You need three things for an accurate quote:
- The address of your current website, if you have one.
- A list of the kinds of pages you need, such as home, collection, product page, projects or about.
- Two or three websites you like, and what you like about them.
Also tell us who writes the texts and whether you already have good images. Texts alone are 8 to 20 hours of our estimate, so that changes the price more than the number of pages does.
You get a short document: what we would fix, in what order and roughly what it would cost. It ends with an honest verdict, including “you don’t need us”.

Questions people ask about website prices
Why do website quotes differ so much?
Quotes differ because people price different work. Our own sizes run from 28 hours for an upgrade to 196 hours for a full website, and both get called “a website”. Ask each studio for the hours and who does them.
Is pricing per page fair?
Not really. A product page template is designed and built once, so the tenth product page costs almost nothing. In our Full website, design is 40 of 196 hours. Ask how many kinds of pages a quote includes, not how many pages.
What costs are easy to miss?
The domain, hosting, paid apps and plugins, product images and changes after launch. On a builder, apps come on top of a plan of about $200–600 a year. Ask which of these a quote includes.
Who owns the website?
You do: the code, the domain and everything on it. If you ever move on, the whole site goes with you.
Do you make the images too?
Yes, through Render Friends, a studio for furniture rendering, interiors and architecture, led by the same founders. Images are priced separately from the site.
Why are your prices lower than a UK studio’s?
Our team is in Ukraine and works remotely in English, so our costs are lower. The work is the same: design, development, testing on phones and browsers, texts and one person leading the project.
Do you quote in pounds or euros?
Our prices are set in US dollars. In pounds, a small website starts from about £1,500 and a full one from about £2,500 at the October 2026 rate.
